Severe Illusion began in the summer of the year 2000 in Göteborg, Sweden.
Both members Ulf Lundblad and Fredrik Djurfeldt had previously been making more experimental forms of electronic music and wanted to establish a platform where more danceable music could be created.
Early 2001 the first Severe Illusion live performance took place, and soon more where to follow.
Two CD-R demos where also released that year which received a lot of attention from radio stations and DJs across the world.
In May the first official album Discipline is reward enough was released and reached the Nordic Alternative Charts(NAC) first position and remains in the top tens for four months.
The band signed with US label DSBP in 2004.
In early 2005 the album Accomplishments of Leopold II was released.
A few shows were played in Slovenia, Germany, Sweden and Czech republic.
The music of Severe Illusion could be described as a static EBM/Noisecore crossover with influences mainly from the canadian scene of the late 1980´s.
